Watched tonight: Colombiana
Observations:
- This film felt hollow. A lot of good components - brilliantly excecuted action sequences, a stellar lead performance, a decent enough plot - but it didn’t really come together.
- There is a lot of eye candy in this film, and it doesn’t always play with the idea of Saldana’s character as a sometimes-vulnerable character. She goes from crying to stripping off in the space of five minutes.
- This film was very fluid, and it’s worth saying that I wasn’t bored at all - being a Luc Besson production (albeit not directed by him), a lot of the fluff is stripped out and it’s quite a lean (in more ways than one) film.
- Callum Blue’s (of Dead Like Me) American accent is awful. Like, really bad. Which is weird, because he’s a fantastic actor and he hits every beat with his character - just with the wrong voice.
- All in all, can’t recommend it. There are too many action films as it is, and this isn’t worth one hour and forty five minutes of your time. Just watch Die Hard again instead.
