Watched: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Observations:
- Not my first time, obviously, but the first viewing in a cinema (on a fucking huge screen, too). It was brilliant - in a film like this where the visuals are a delirious, fantastic mess, you need a screen the size of a swimming pool to take it all in.
- Also, for some reason, this is the first time I’ve really been able to appreciate the sound design - there are musical cuts I hadn’t really been able to make out before, and Benicio Del Toro actually borders on intelligible from time to time.
- The audience reaction (all fans, presumably) really boosts this. This film is funny, but you sometimes need a communal response to have the confidence to laugh.
- The whole experience was marred slightly by losing (and later finding, but not until after a lot of sweat and panic) my wallet, but still - this film is a classic, and easily one of my favourites.
