Second viewing for me - I first saw this when it came out.

It wasn’t as narratively compelling on a second run, though the visuals are just as stunning and innovative (and reason enough alone to watch this film)

I loved the epilogue first time around, but now it feels a little emotionally jarring. This is a dark film, and ending on a message of hope feels a little disingenuous. The character of Matt needed a little more grounding for it to be justified, and the film ended up succumbing to fascination with the villain. If you can call him that.

I’m really happy that Dane DeHaan seems to be doing well for himself. Everyone else I could take or leave, but he’s mesmerising.

Still interesting, but for different reasons.
