Watched: Game of Thrones, Season 3

I’m really not sure what to make of this show, still. On the one hand, it’s cheap and crass and has a horrible attitude when it comes to women (yes, yes, Daenerys and Cersei and blah blah blah exceptions do not change the overall societal construct); on the other, it’s tightly plotted, and clever, and pulls no emotional punches. There are some standout characters in this who alone make the show worth watching, but it firmly belongs in that second rung of HBO one-hour dramas - those that aren’t afraid to throw in some overt titillation on the frequent occasions where it runs out of ideas, rather than always keeping the story front-and-centre.
